Part-time - Entry Level

About the position

The Language Acquisition Instructor role is designed to support Hispanic parents in developing their conversational English skills. This part-time position focuses on practical language usage to enhance communication in daily interactions, school settings, and community activities, fostering a welcoming environment that builds confidence and encourages engagement in education and community participation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver interactive, conversational English lessons tailored to the needs of Hispanic parents.
  • Focus on practical language skills, including basic conversation, common phrases, vocabulary for everyday situations, and pronunciation.
  • Use role-playing, real-life scenarios, and culturally relevant examples to make lessons engaging and relatable.
  • Collaborate with the program team to create and adapt curriculum based on parent needs and learning progress.
  • Identify and implement appropriate language resources and materials that support diverse learning styles, particularly auditory and visual methods.
  • Develop assessments and track participant progress, providing individualized feedback to support language development.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment that respects Hispanic culture and language.
  • Encourage parents' involvement in school activities and community events by building their confidence in conversational English.
  • Maintain open communication with families, answering questions, addressing concerns, and adapting to their language needs.
  • Work closely with the Director of Family Engagement or Program Coordinator to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Provide periodic updates and reports on attendance, engagement, and progress metrics.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development related to language instruction and cultural sensitivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching English as a second language (ESL), preferably to adults or parents.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable to facilitate clear communication and instructional support.
  • Strong understanding of Hispanic cultures and the challenges immigrant families may face in language acquisition.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed to accommodate parent schedules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications are a plus.
