About the position
The Language Arts Teacher for 6th Grade at Southwest Middle Career Academy is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction that aligns with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Common Core. The role focuses on fostering educational and social development in students through effective teaching strategies and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core.
- Develop and use instructional materials suitable for diverse learners.
- Provide individual and group instruction tailored to student needs.
- Establish and maintain standards of student control for effective participation.
- Evaluate academic and social growth of students and maintain appropriate records.
- Communicate with parents through various means and hold conferences to discuss student progress.
- Identify student needs and collaborate with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning issues.
- Create an effective learning environment with functional displays and interest centers.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities.
- Participate in faculty and district committees and sponsor student activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
- Fully licensed as an English Teacher (00100) or eligible for licensure.
- Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core.
- Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Ability to assess and use data for teaching and learning.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Smartboard© and other forms of technology.
- Ability to manage instructional time and student behavior.
- Ability to consult with parents, teachers, and the community.
