POSITION : PART-TIME DISTANCE EDUCATION ASSISTANT REPORTS TO: DISTANCE EDUCATION COORDINATOR HOURLY RATE: $18 - $20 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Up to 29 hours a week. EFFECTIVE : This position is available now RESPONSIBILITIES : Under general supervision of the Coordinator of Distance Education, the Distance Education Assistant assists in the administration, coordination, and enhancement of the college's distance education department. Duties: Provides technical support for students, faculty and staff through phone, email and walk-in. Provides help desk and technical support for students and faculty in the setup, use and troubleshooting of secure browser software, test generation software, Learning Management Systems, and related hardware and software. Assists faculty with beginning and end-of-term duties such as importing content, exporting content, copying content from one master/course to another, troubleshooting gradebooks, etc. Submits online course offerings to GVTC and checks for accuracy in offerings and requirements each term. Creates and updates information, handouts, webpages, video tutorials in various multimedia formats (print, web, video). Assists with adapting distance education course materials to meet accessibility requirements. Assists with data entry and reporting. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Distance Education MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Associate's degree in Business Technology, Computer Information Systems, or closely related field. NOTE : Computer help desk and/or technical support full-time work experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES : Proficiency in learning management systems (Blackboard) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications and competencies) : Bachelor's degree. Experience in distance education or online learning environments Familiarity with instructional design principles is an advantage.
