About the position

HealthPartners is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Large Group Underwriting team. This pivotal role is responsible for evaluating the risk associated with large group cases through both medical and experience underwriting methodologies. The Senior Underwriter will play a crucial role in providing training and work direction to other members of the department, ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively. In this position, the Senior Underwriter will be tasked with calculating and analyzing both Fully Insured (F/I) and Self-Insured (S/I) renewal and prospect rates. They will prepare various benefit alternatives to present to clients and provide technical advice to the Sales team to support their efforts in securing new business. Additionally, the role involves analyzing Employer Reports to assess risk and maintain underwriting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices. The Senior Underwriter will also be responsible for maintaining rate spreadsheets and initiating recommendations aimed at streamlining the underwriting process. Staying informed about changes in laws, legislation, and competitor activities is essential for this role. The Senior Underwriter will ensure that HealthPartners implements necessary changes to maintain its competitive presence in the industry, thereby contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and analyze F/I and S/I renewal and prospect rates.
  • Prepare benefit alternatives for clients.
  • Provide technical advice to the Sales team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of at least 5 years of medical or group underwriting experience.
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office products or comparable applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of math aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong consulting skills.
