About the position

HealthPartners is currently seeking an Underwriter to join our Large Group Underwriting team. In this role, the Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating the risk associated with individual applicants or group cases through the application of medical or experience underwriting techniques. This position is crucial in ensuring that we accurately assess and manage the risks involved in underwriting large group insurance policies. The Underwriter will be tasked with calculating financial and insurance renewal rates, as well as preparing basic self-insured renewal and prospect rates. Additionally, they will prepare various benefit alternatives to present to clients and stakeholders. A significant part of the role involves presenting risk issues to management, which requires a clear understanding of the implications of underwriting decisions. The Underwriter will also need to comprehend Employer Reports and participate in efforts to streamline the underwriting process, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in our operations. Staying informed about changes in laws, legislation, and competitor activities is essential for this role, as it directly impacts our underwriting practices and strategies. The Underwriter will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and competitiveness of our underwriting processes, contributing to the overall success of the Large Group Underwriting team.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate financial and insurance renewal and prospect rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of two years medical or group underwriting experience.
  • Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office products or comparable applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of math aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently.
