About the position

The Fiber & CO2 Laser Machine Operator is responsible for the efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of fiber and CO2 laser cutting machines used to cut various materials. This role requires technical skills to manage laser parameters, ensure high-quality outputs, and maintain machine functionality. The ideal candidate will have experience with fiber laser technology and a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate fiber & CO2 laser cutting machines according to work orders, technical drawings, and production specifications.
  • Load and secure materials onto the machine's cutting bed, ensuring proper alignment and setup.
  • Configure laser settings, including power, speed, and focus, based on material type and job requirements.
  • Monitor the cutting process, adjusting settings as needed to achieve optimal cut quality and efficiency.
  • Perform machine setup tasks such as installing and aligning optics, nozzles, and other necessary components.
  • Conduct test cuts to verify machine setup and make adjustments to ensure accuracy before full production.
  • Interpret and input cutting parameters into the machine's control system, including cutting paths, speeds, and material types.
  • Inspect cut parts for conformance to specifications, including verifying dimensions, edge quality, and overall appearance.
  • Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Identify and report any defects or issues in the cutting process, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on fiber & CO2 laser machines, including cleaning lenses, checking machine alignment, and replacing consumables.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine issues, such as alignment problems, cutting inconsistencies, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team for more complex repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes.
  • Follow company policies and OSHA regulations related to laser machine operation and workplace safety.
  • Participate in safety training and ensure safe work practices are followed at all times.
  • Record production data, including quantities produced, material usage, and any issues encountered during the cutting process.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine maintenance, tool changes, and program adjustments.
  • Communicate job progress, potential issues, and improvement suggestions to supervisors and team members.
  • Work with other production team members to ensure efficient workflow and meet production deadlines.
  • Coordinate with engineering and quality teams to address design or quality issues as they arise.
  • Provide feedback on fiber & CO2 laser cutting processes and suggest improvements for increased efficiency and quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Good computer skills, including experience with machine control software and CAD/CAM programs.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to perform repetitive tasks with high accuracy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience operating fiber or CO2 laser cutting machines or similar equipment preferred but not required.
