About the position

The Laundry Assistant is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and proper handling of laundry for residents and the facility. This role involves picking up, laundering, drying, folding, and returning laundry items, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols and equipment maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the cleanliness and orderly manner in which resident laundry is handled.
• Pick up, launder, dry and fold facility laundry (sheets, blankets, pillowcases, towels, washcloths, etc.).
• Pick up, launder, dry, fold and hang residents' personal clothing.
• Return to room, put away folded belongings, hang clothes that are on hangers in a neat and orderly manner.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained according to facility maintenance programs and procedures.
• Clean lint baskets frequently, wipe down washers and dryers after each shift.
• Report maintenance issues to the Maintenance department for repair(s).
• Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area.
• Pay attention to surroundings while moving heavy laundry containers and personal clothing carts.
• Keep track of soiled, stained and tattered items due to use or age and report to Supervisor.
• Remove items that are not approved for further use and replace them.
• Make supervisor aware of depleting counts of stock items when running low.
• Use PPE while changing out chemicals once they are empty and dispose of them properly.
• Perform other duties as assigned, which may include housekeeping or floor tech tasks.
• Adhere to dress codes and maintain personal cleanliness.

Requirements

• Ability to handle laundry equipment and perform physical tasks related to laundry duties.
• Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
