About the position
The Laundry Assistant at NHC HealthCare Fort Oglethorpe is responsible for managing the laundry operations within the facility. This includes sorting, washing, drying, and folding linens while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The role is essential in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the healthcare environment, contributing to the overall well-being of patients.
Responsibilities
- Sort out dirty laundry as instructed.
- Load and unload washing machines and dryers.
- Fold and store clean linens according to center policy.
- Keep dirty linen separate from clean linen at all times.
- Check water temperature of washing machines to ensure it meets standards.
- Clean lint traps in accordance with center policy at least once per shift.
- Check levels of laundry detergents, softeners, and bleach according to center policy.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, and equipment in the laundry area.
- Inform supervisor of any equipment problems for timely repairs.
- Shut down all equipment in accordance with center policy when fire alarm sounds.
Requirements
- Must be able to read Standard English.
- Must be able to operate standard and commercial laundry machinery.
- Must be able to understand and follow instructions.
- Able to pull and push wet laundry (50 - 75 pounds) from washing machine.
- Able to be on feet 7 - 8 hours per day.
- Able to stoop, kneel, and bend.
- Able to lift 30 - 40 pounds frequently.
Nice-to-haves
- Training in housekeeping or laundry operations is preferred.
