About the position

The Supervisory Laundry Operations Specialist position at the Boston VA Healthcare System involves overseeing the operations of the laundry service, ensuring compliance with various regulations, and managing a workforce to meet the needs of the facility. The role requires effective communication, personnel management, and operational analysis to enhance service delivery and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a wage grade workforce through subordinate supervisors/leaders.
  • Analyzing facility operations to evaluate the effectiveness of laundry operations and recommend changes.
  • Communicating orally and in writing with a wide variety of personnel and multiple installations.
  • Carrying out the operations and scheduling requirements of the laundry plant to meet customer requirements and delivery times.
  • Determining staffing needs and organizational structure to assess effectiveness of manpower and resource utilization.
  • Identifying problems, initiating corrective actions, and determining necessary resources for compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates; setting and adjusting short-term priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work.
  • Providing advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Identifying developmental training needs for employees and arranging for training.
  • Developing performance standards and making decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors and team leaders.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service.
  • Experience in reviewing and enforcing policies and procedures regarding laundry and linen management.
  • Ability to apply sanitation procedures and use antimicrobial agents in disinfection and sterilization processes.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with internal and external personnel.
  • Experience in analyzing budget and funding issues to assist in fund allocation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Laundry and Linen Manager (CLLM) certification.
  • Registered Laundry and Linen Director (RLLD) certification.
