About the position
The Laundry Technician at Christus Health System plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of hospital linens, garments, drapes, and other articles essential for patient care. This position involves operating various industrial laundry machines, including Continuous Batch Washers and Washer Extractors, to ensure that all soiled items are thoroughly cleaned and processed according to hospital standards. The technician is responsible for mixing and adding appropriate cleaning solutions to the machines, as well as drying, folding, sorting, and counting the laundered items to verify quantities. Additionally, the technician may be required to press articles and distribute them to the relevant hospital departments, ensuring that all areas are adequately supplied with clean linens and garments. In this role, the Laundry Technician must meet the expectations outlined in the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, which include being a Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. The technician will sort and process hospital soiled and clean linen in accordance with pre-established washing formulas and hospital operating procedures. Operating industrial laundry machinery is a significant part of the job, and the technician will need to be familiar with various types of washers and finishing equipment. Furthermore, the technician will construct surgical linen packs for use in the Central Sterilization Reprocessing Departments and prepare linen Par/Bulk carts for distribution throughout the organization. This position is essential for ensuring that the hospital maintains high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Loads, unloads, and tends laundering machines to clean soiled linens, garments, drapes, and other hospital articles.
- Mixes and adds cleaning solutions to machines.
- Dries, folds, sorts, and counts articles according to identification or type to verify quantities.
- May press articles as needed.
- Distributes laundered articles to appropriate hospital departments.
- Sorts and processes hospital soiled/clean linen in accordance with pre-established washing formulas and hospital operating procedures.
- Operates industrial laundry machinery such as Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), 750 lbs Washer Extractor, 450 lbs Washer, 125 lbs Washer Extractor, and 85 lbs Washer Extractor.
- Hand folds and operates industrial laundry linen finishing equipment such as folders, feeders, ironers, and steam pressing machines.
- Constructs surgical linen packs utilized by the Central Sterilization Reprocessing Departments.
- Constructs linen Par/Bulk carts for shipment throughout the organization.
Requirements
- High School Diploma preferred.
