About the position

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill three Laundry Worker positions at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. The role involves assisting, supervising, and training incarcerated workers in laundry operations, including collecting, sorting, weighing, and counting laundry from various facilities. The position requires standing for long periods and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs, as well as operating industrial machinery and troubleshooting mechanical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise, and train incarcerated workers in laundry operations.
  • Collect, sort, weigh, and count laundry from all facilities within the Corrections Division.
  • Operate industrial laundry machinery and troubleshoot mechanical faults during operation.
  • Schedule and coordinate the pick-up and delivery of laundry in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Identify mechanical problems and arrange for maintenance.
  • Track the condition and durability of clothing, linen, and blankets, and recommend when items are no longer usable.
  • Train corrections personnel and incarcerated workers in laundry equipment and procedures.
  • Requisition supplies, equipment, and materials needed for laundry operations.
  • Supervise the clean-up of the work area and maintain linen storage areas.
  • Classify laundry articles by type of fabric and color, and select appropriate cleaning methods.

Requirements

  • Commercial laundry experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
