About the position

The Laundry Worker position at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center involves performing a variety of textile care duties in both the clean and soiled sides of the laundry facility. The role includes intensive on-the-job training and requires the worker to handle soiled linen, operate laundry equipment, and ensure the proper handling and delivery of clean linens throughout the hospital. This position is essential for maintaining hygiene and operational efficiency within the medical center's laundry services.

Responsibilities

  • Remove and transport soiled linen throughout the hospital and designated laundry chute rooms.
  • Operate hydraulic cart dump machine, digital scale, conveyor, and pneumatic rail system.
  • Empty linen bags and sort linen into the proper bins while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Fold rough dry linens such as pajamas, gowns, bathrobes, blankets, and washcloths, stacking them in prescribed numbers and proper areas.
  • Shake out, straighten, and feed linen into the spreader and flatwork ironer, blanket machine, and small piece folder.
  • Operate equipment such as ironer, blanket folder, small piece folder, and ATS delivery system.
  • Deliver and restock clean linen throughout the hospital.
  • Prepare linen packs for autoclave in Sterile Processing Section (SPS).
  • Inspect surgical linen for stains and imperfections and remove all lint.
  • Assemble and wrap Operating Room (OR) linens according to specifications.

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
