About the position

The Law Enforcement Telecommunications System Specialist III is responsible for the operation and administration of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications (OLETS) message switching system. This role involves providing technical and administrative support to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The position requires effective communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 operational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the OLETS message switching system for information exchange between criminal justice agencies.
  • Create and monitor connections to the switch and databases, troubleshoot issues, and report problems for resolution.
  • Conduct audits of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies accessing the OLETS network and document findings.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to agencies in using information obtained via OLETS.
  • Review database information for completeness and accuracy, correct errors, and advise agencies of corrections.
  • Monitor messages from law enforcement agencies for compliance with laws and OLETS policies.
  • Make and receive telephone requests from user agencies regarding message preparation and information access.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience as a telecommunications dispatcher in a law enforcement telecommunications system or as a network specialist in a data communications system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of six hours of computer science coursework for each year of required experience, with a maximum substitution of 18 semester hours for education.
  • For Level III, one additional year of qualifying experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • OLETS certified terminal operator certification or willingness to obtain certification before the end of the probationary period.
