About the position

The Border Patrol Agent (BPA) position is a critical role within the U.S. Border Patrol, responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders, deterring illegal activities, and enhancing economic prosperity. This position offers a career ladder with opportunities for advancement and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities

  • Detecting, preventing, and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near land borders.
  • Responding to electronic sensor alarms and interpreting physical evidence.
  • Conducting patrols of the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets.
  • Performing farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
  • Maintaining surveillance from covert positions and using infrared scopes during night operations.
  • Occasional travel based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection unless exempt due to prior law enforcement service.
  • One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree for GL-5 level.
  • One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement for GL-7 level.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-7 for GL-9 level.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GL-9 for GS-11 level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to speak and read Spanish fluently.
