About The Position

The Law Enforcement Officer Recruit position at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services involves participating in law enforcement activities related to agricultural law enforcement. The selected candidates will attend the Law Enforcement Academy in Fall 2025 and will be responsible for enforcing laws concerning domesticated animals, livestock, and other agricultural products, as well as general criminal laws. This role requires meeting specific qualifications and passing necessary tests to ensure readiness for law enforcement duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply and 19 years of age by date of hire.
  • Valid driver license with no more than four moving traffic violations in the past three years.
  • No convictions for DUI or refusal to submit to a breath/blood/urine test in the last five years.
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statements.
  • Good moral character is required.
  • One year of law enforcement experience or two years of work experience or military service can substitute for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • College education can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required sworn law enforcement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct law enforcement activities as specified in Section 570.65, Florida Statutes.
  • Enforce laws related to domesticated animals, livestock, poultry, aquaculture products, and farm equipment.
  • Address criminal violations on property owned or managed by the department.
  • Respond to emergency situations involving potential danger to life or property.
  • Carry arms and exercise arrest authority as provided for state law enforcement officers.
