About the position

The Law Enforcement Officer at Coastal Carolina University is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the campus community. This role involves proactive patrolling, enforcing laws and university regulations, conducting investigations, and providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The officer will also develop partnerships with the community and law enforcement agencies to enhance safety and security measures on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively patrol assigned areas and observe for criminal and traffic violations and/or other suspicious activity.
  • Monitor assigned patrol areas and make recommendations to improve community safety.
  • Enforce University rules, state and local laws, issue citations, and make arrests as necessary.
  • Answer calls for service and regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Conduct investigations on accidents and criminal activity, securing and preserving evidence.
  • Question suspects and/or witnesses and take statements.
  • Attend court and provide testimony as required.
  • Participate in Alcohol/Narcotic undercover operations.
  • Document all enforcement and investigative activities and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Complete departmental forms and perform follow-up investigations, including developing informants.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Respond to emergencies quickly and safely, protecting life and stopping harm to others.
  • Develop partnerships with law enforcement and the community through community-oriented policing practices.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Satisfactory driving history with no criminal history.
  • Eligibility to obtain certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy Basic Training Course for police or be a certified police officer in South Carolina.
  • Possession of a valid SC driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Law Enforcement Officer Class I certification.
