About the position

The Probate Legal Assistant/Paralegal position is a vital role within our law firm, aimed at supporting attorneys in managing various probate court client matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting correspondence and pleadings, monitoring probate estates, and ensuring that all timelines are adhered to. This role requires effective communication with clients regarding the status of their probate and litigation matters, making it essential for the candidate to possess strong interpersonal skills. The position is available in both our Guntersville and Arab, Alabama offices, and candidates can apply for either or both locations. In addition to probate-specific tasks, the Probate Legal Assistant/Paralegal will also assist with general law office duties. This includes answering phones, taking messages, scheduling appointments, maintaining attorneys' calendars, and managing client files. The ability to multitask and adapt to various roles within the office is crucial. The firm emphasizes the importance of attention to detail, as the candidate will be handling sensitive legal documents and client information. A 90-day probationary period will be in place to assess the candidate's fit for permanent employment. The ideal candidate will have a background as a trained paralegal with experience in probate or litigation matters, or have worked in a similar capacity within an attorney's office. The firm values a team player attitude and the ability to interact positively with clients and colleagues. Candidates should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of meeting deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Draft correspondence and letters to clients, opposing attorneys, and others.
  • Draft initial probate pleadings and legal filings.
  • Monitor probate estates and ensure case matters are handled within required deadlines.
  • Assist in answering and routing incoming calls on a multi-line telephone system.
  • Schedule court appearances and coordinate with judges' offices.
  • Schedule client appointments.
  • Perform other general office duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trained paralegal with knowledge of handling probate matters or law office assistant with extensive experience in probate matters required.
  • Computer and word processing experience required.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated with the ability to complete assigned projects and meet deadlines.
  • Sufficient knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Excellent client management and people skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some post-secondary education preferred.
  • Experience in litigation matters.
