About the position

The Law Office Manager is responsible for overseeing the effective and efficient operation of the division within the Department of Law. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and assisting in the development of division programs and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the staff through appropriate delegation and work supervision.
  • Recruit and supervise the support staff for the Law Department.
  • Assist in the development and make recommendations on division programs, policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
  • Monitor all document preparation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Advise the Borough Attorney of administrative matters and concerns.
  • Assist with the implementation of grants and state programs or contracts when necessary.
  • Prepare, review and file legal pleadings, contracts and general correspondence for the department.
  • Research needs, legal issues and gather facts for various matters to ensure accuracy and expedite the processing of documents and correspondence.
  • Oversee the calendaring of pending civil litigation cases for upcoming deadlines, trials or depositions.
  • Keep track of Ordinances and Resolutions passed by the North Slope Borough Assembly to ensure accurate publication of the North Slope Borough Municipal Code.
  • Oversee the updating of legal publications in the Law Department.
  • Attend various meetings, hearings, or sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in applicable field.
  • Two years of legal, supervisory and managerial experience.

  • Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
  • Knowledge of file and records management principles.
  • Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying relevant Borough, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
  • Skill in maneuvering and data entry into the iSeries, JDE Software.
  • Skill in correcting and updating financial and accounting information systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other Borough employees and representatives from other local, state and Federal agencies.
