About the position

The Lawyer Development Manager for Training and Inclusion & Belonging at Orrick is responsible for overseeing associate development programs aimed at enhancing professional skills and career growth. This role involves designing, implementing, and assessing various training initiatives, including firmwide academies, workshops, and retreats, to ensure that attorneys receive the necessary feedback and skills for advancement within the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the project lifecycle of firmwide development academies, boot camps, and retreats, collaborating with firm leaders and presenters.
  • Work closely with Practice Group-specific training teams to provide substantive legal practice-specific training for associates.
  • Assess training needs, define learning objectives, refine curriculum, and ensure program quality.
  • Manage associate skills training initiatives, including workshops and boot camps focused on legal writing, presentation, communication, and project management skills.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to execute training programming from start to finish.
  • Determine development needs and recommend new initiatives for associate development aligned with business strategy.
  • Support strategic initiatives related to mentoring, coaching, Inclusion & Belonging, and effective communication.
  • Track deliverables for upcoming programs and maintain an organized file management system.
  • Advise on MCLE requirements and compliance for attorneys and staff, ensuring program materials meet regulations.
  • Compile and maintain diversity and inclusion data and metrics, assisting in the production of related reports.
  • Manage DEI-related events and programs, including tracking budgets and participants.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of training/professional development experience within a law firm, legal department, or equivalent.
  • Experience in developing and administering training programs both live and remotely.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to synthesize complex requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to develop actionable recommendations and implementation plans.
  • Strong relationship management skills and commitment to collaboration.
  • Ability to delegate effectively and manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, highly proficient in Microsoft Office apps.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a global professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with data applications like PowerBI.
