About the position

As a Lifecycle Assessment Analyst at Bridgestone, you will be instrumental in evaluating the environmental impact and sustainability of our products and processes throughout their entire lifecycle. This role is based in Akron, OH, and requires the selected candidate to either live within a commutable distance or relocate to the area, as it is not a remote position. Your primary responsibility will involve conducting comprehensive lifecycle assessments (LCAs) for various products and processes, which includes analyzing the raw material, production, transportation, product use, and end-of-life phases. You will gather and analyze data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and reliability in assessing the environmental impacts and resource usage associated with our products and solutions. Utilizing specialized LCA software and tools, particularly GaBi, you will model scenarios and forecast the environmental consequences of potential changes in our operations. Identifying key sustainability metrics and establishing benchmarks will be crucial in tracking our progress towards achieving environmental goals. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with research and development teams to integrate EcoDesign principles into product development, aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of our offerings. Additionally, you will engage with supply chain and procurement teams to collect and evaluate life cycle inventory data, assessing the environmental performance of suppliers and materials used in our products. Your insights will help optimize processes and materials to minimize environmental impact while maintaining product quality and efficiency. Staying informed about industry best practices, regulations, and emerging trends related to sustainability and lifecycle assessments will be essential. You will prepare clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate LCA results and recommendations to stakeholders and management, and participate in sustainability-focused projects to enhance our company's overall environmental performance. Furthermore, you will contribute to educational and training content related to LCA, material sustainability, circular economy, and ESG initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive lifecycle assessments (LCAs) for various products and processes, considering raw material, production, transportation, product use, and end-of-life phases.
  • Gather and analyze data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability, to assess the environmental impacts and resource usage associated with our products and solutions.
  • Utilize specialized LCA software and tools (GaBi preferred) to model scenarios and forecast the environmental consequences of potential changes in our operations.
  • Identify key sustainability metrics and establish benchmarks to track our progress towards achieving environmental goals.
  • Collaborate with research and development teams to integrate EcoDesign principles into product development, aiming for a reduced environmental footprint.
  • Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to collect, process and evaluate the life cycle inventory data to assess the environmental performance of suppliers and materials used in our products.
  • Provide insightful recommendations for optimizing processes and materials to minimize our environmental impact while maintaining product quality and efficiency.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, regulations, and emerging trends related to sustainability and lifecycle assessments.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate LCA results and recommendations to stakeholders and management.
  • Participate in sustainability-focused projects and initiatives to enhance our company's overall environmental performance.
  • Participate in educational/training content related to LCA, material sustainability, circular economy, and ESG.
  • Build and maintain databases of information about energy alternatives, emissions, etc. from suppliers, published literatures, reports as well as commercial data providers.
  • Identify sustainable alternatives to industrial waste-management practices.
  • Identify opportunities for environmental impact reductions using a variety of tools including energy generation and efficiency, optimized materials, carbon credit procurement, and supply chain engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in conducting lifecycle assessments and applying LCA methodologies to products and services.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and draw actionable conclusions.
  • Familiarity with LCA software and tools (e.g., GaBi) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and sustainability frameworks (e.g., ISO 14040/14044, GHG Protocol, WBCSD, GRI).
  • Understanding of Corporate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions accounting principles, net zero and SBTi.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for sustainability and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate manufacturing and product data to identify how and where LCA can supplement and drive unique business value.
