About the position

The Counselor position at Texas Treatment Services involves providing direct addiction treatment services to adult patients and their families. The role includes gathering data, documenting problems, and establishing treatment plans while ensuring compliance with legal obligations and maintaining patient confidentiality. The Counselor will conduct individual and group counseling sessions, collaborate with medical staff, and participate in ongoing assessment and treatment planning processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to patients assigned to caseload.
  • Direct training groups and seminars.
  • Provide therapeutic leadership in group counseling sessions.
  • Function as a liaison with community-based agencies and law enforcement to ensure continuity of treatment and compliance with legal obligations.
  • Complete individual chemical dependency assessments for new patients, ensuring accuracy and completion of required forms.
  • Develop individual treatment plans (ITP) with patient input and consultation, verified by the patient's signature.
  • Update new patient charts within established time frames, ensuring they are current within 30 days.
  • Work with medical staff to secure urine samples for monthly urinalysis and document results in patient charts.
  • Execute random bottle recalls as part of Diversion Control.
  • Provide necessary forms to the Medical Director for patient requests regarding medications and changes.
  • Protect patient confidentiality by properly completing release of information forms for outside referrals and contacts.
  • Maintain compliance with DHHS regulations and the Policy and Procedure Manual for assigned patient files.
  • Complete discharge forms within seven days of a patient's discharge and submit to the Program Director.
  • Participate in daily reports, case reviews, and treatment teams for ongoing assessment and treatment planning.
  • Provide patient education on chemical dependency and recovery processes.
  • Offer supportive counseling or crisis intervention services as needed in conjunction with medical and nursing services.
  • Educate the public and professional community about opioid treatment programs.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain professional credentials through required training and events.
  • Participate in the Continuing Quality Improvement process and report on assigned CQI monitors.

Requirements

  • Must have a LCDC, LCSW, or LMSW licensure in the state of Texas.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
  • Valid driver's license or state-issued ID.
