About the position

Delta Utilities is seeking an Income Tax Lead Accountant to manage the preparation and review of income tax provisions, compliance, and filings. This role is critical to ensuring the company's adherence to all applicable tax laws and regulations while optimizing tax positions. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in corporate income tax accounting and compliance, coupled with strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns, including extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments.
  • Preparation of sales and property tax returns as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and regulatory disclosures related to income taxes including underlying calculations and documentation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of tax filings to maintain compliance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Conduct tax research and stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards to assess their impact on the company.
  • Assist in developing and implementing tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary data for tax calculations and compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits related to income tax by preparing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain and improve tax accounting systems and processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Analyze financial data and transactions to identify potential tax implications and ensure proper reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree in taxation preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in corporate income tax accounting and compliance, preferably in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Expertise in ASC 740 and accounting for income taxes.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation and compliance software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and financial data.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
