About the position

The Lead Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer will manage a team of control engineers and collaborate with various departments to enhance the refinery's control system applications. This role is crucial for ensuring operational success and reliability of the refinery's processes, focusing on team management, budget oversight, and process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of process control system and application professionals.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for the Process Control System Department.
  • Support process control system reliability and alarm management systems.
  • Monitor and optimize process control applications to align with business objectives.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting process control systems and applications.
  • Lead the development of process control capital projects, including re-instrumentation and APC.
  • Participate in the justification of projects related to process control system infrastructure.
  • Ensure project designs and system modifications adhere to best practices.
  • Assist in the selection and implementation of process control technologies.
  • Develop and implement staffing strategies for the department.
  • Set clear expectations for direct reports and communicate effectively with management.
  • Facilitate training for APC Engineers and Control System Specialists/Analysts.
  • Provide process control engineering support to Area Business Teams (ABT).
  • Offer support during the planning and execution of turnaround projects.
  • Provide support throughout the proposal, design, and construction phases of capital projects.
  • Complete and maintain detailed reports and files for Advanced Process Control activities.
  • Provide high-level reports and updates to upper management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in refining or petrochemical industries with a strong background in process control.
  • Experience with Honeywell systems and process engineering.
  • Familiarity with industry process safety and environmental regulations.
  • Solid understanding of basic refinery processes, reliability principles, and refining economics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in capital project management.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in process control.
