About the position

The Lead Analyst for Budget Planning & Operations at the University of Washington plays a crucial role in overseeing the Budget Planning and Operations team. This position involves managing the day-to-day operations of the team, supervising staff, and ensuring effective budget management and analysis. The Lead Analyst will also facilitate the university's annual operating budget process and provide leadership in creating an inclusive and equitable work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and manage the Budget Planning & Operations Analysts.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Budget Planning & Operations analyst team.
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals to create an inclusive environment and culture.
  • Lead improvement projects for Budget & Planning Operations analysis tools and processes.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on budget activity for university operations.
  • Facilitate the university's annual operating budget process in Workday Adaptive Planning.
  • Oversee the allocation and distribution of centrally managed funds.
  • Ensure training and cross training across on business processes and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field.
  • 4 years of cumulative experience as an analyst, lead or senior analyst or other analyst related role.
  • 1 year of progressively responsible leadership/management experience.
  • Proficient in using advanced Microsoft Excel features such as macros, embedded queries, and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, budget management, and financial statement analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business, finance, accounting or like field.
  • Experience working in higher education or state agency experience.
  • Familiarity with GAAP according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Shiny).
  • Proficiency in R, SQL, SAS, Microsoft Power BI, Excel (or equivalents).
