About the position

The Lead Analyst - Data Science at the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club is a pivotal role focused on leveraging advanced statistical methods and machine learning to enhance team performance and decision-making. This position involves collaborating with various departments to analyze player performance, develop predictive models, and generate actionable insights that directly impact the team's success. The analyst will work in a fast-paced sports environment, utilizing data to support scouting, player development, and overall baseball operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy statistical and machine learning models to support baseball operations.
  • Analyze large and complex data on player performance, game statistics, and team metrics.
  • Develop and refine predictive models to forecast player performance and game outcomes.
  • Translate data analysis into actionable insights and recommendations for coaching staff and management.
  • Create detailed reports and visualizations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Design and implement data tools and dashboards for real-time decision-making.
  • Stay current with advancements in data science and sports analytics.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team and improve existing projects.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient data collection, storage, and management.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to summarize findings.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or statistical analysis, preferably in a sports context.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with a database language such as SQL.
  • Experience working with spatiotemporal data and high-dimensional time series data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or Torch.
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics and languages such as Stan.
  • Experience with Generative AI techniques such as GANs, VAEs, or other generative models.
