About the position

The Lead Analyst - Database Support at Avangrid Service Company is responsible for providing support for SQL Server database environments and applications. This role involves participating in database system design, maintenance, and enhancement, ensuring uninterrupted service to the Energy Control Center (ECC), and supporting Cyber Security requirements. The analyst will also analyze and extract system data for engineers and proactively monitor database and application systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for AVANGRID SQL Server database environments and applications.
  • Participate in database system design, maintenance, and enhancement work.
  • Proactively monitor and maintain all database and application systems for uninterrupted service.
  • Analyze, extract, and make available system data for engineers on request.
  • Support Cyber Security requirements for Control Center operations.
  • Maintain stored procedures, indexes, SQL jobs, alerts, and special procedures in a multi-server environment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to permissions, networking, firewall, and Active Directory.
  • Review audit requirements and apply necessary fixes.
  • Schedule backups and restore databases using SQL native backups and knowledge of Veeam/Veritas backups.
  • Configure SQL Mail and notifications for job failures and proactive alerts.
  • Manage disaster recovery tasks and design.
  • Optimize SQL statements in applications, batch jobs, and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2+ years in RDBMS experience or Associate Degree with 4+ years in RDBMS experience or 5-7 years' IT and RDBMS related experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server installation and configurations on SQL Server 2019.
  • Experience in migrating from earlier versions of SQL Server to SQL Server 2019 and above.
  • Strong background in SQL Server database administration including query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Experience in high availability methods like clustering and Always ON Availability Groups.
  • Experience in applying database and security patches.
  • Strong experience in disaster recovery tasks and design.
  • In-depth knowledge of database security and privilege assignment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SolarWinds DPA.
  • Experience in datacenter migrations.
  • Prior experience in working with Gas Utilities or any other utility industry.
