About the position

The Lead Analytics Engineer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is responsible for managing a small team of analytics engineers to build and support the data analytics platform. This role focuses on transforming enterprise data assets into actionable insights to enhance healthcare delivery. The position involves establishing standards for data modeling, developing data infrastructure, and ensuring high-quality code and processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, project management, and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop standards for data modeling and review data models and data pipelines built by others
  • Build usable data infrastructure that is supportable, secure, and of high quality
  • Thoughtfully apply software engineering best practices to the analytics workflow
  • Identify and implement automations for manual processes, redesign infrastructure to be more scalable and performant
  • Make recommendations about new technology adoption, integrations, libraries, and frameworks
  • Establish best practices for managing infrastructure as code
  • Direct line management of a small team of data and analytics engineers
  • Mentor high performing team, motivate, and develop staff to maximize their contributions
  • Responsible for project management, including project estimation, resource allocation, and participation in RFP/RFIs
  • Contribute to enterprise data governance standards; educate and support colleagues to ensure that data is used appropriately
  • Ensure high quality code review for enterprise data products; develop automations to provide guard rails to the data release process
  • Maintain and support a shared production on-call support model for the team
  • Act as the voice of the customer to offer concrete feedback, and advocate for analytics within the business
  • Communicate changes and collaborate across the business to manage large changes that have significant business impact

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems or similar field of study preferred
  • At least six (6) years of experience with Data Warehousing Platforms/tools (including ETL/ELT solutions) or Database administration required
  • At least ten (10) years of experience with Data Warehousing Platforms/tools (including ETL/ELT solutions) or Database administration preferred
  • At least one (1) year working with at least one of the public cloud platforms such as AWS/Azure/GCP preferred

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with BI/Visualization tools
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git
  • Experience utilizing Agile methodology
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes
  • Basic understanding of Operating systems, networking concepts and application architecture patterns
  • Ability to code with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, groovy etc.
  • Knowledge of big data toolset: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, sqoop etc.
  • Basic knowledge of data integration tools: dbt, Informatica, MS Integration Services etc.
  • Knowledge of stream processing systems: AWS Kinesis, Spark Streaming, etc.
  • Basic understanding of ways to consume and build APIs
  • Healthcare domain experience (Preferred proficiency)
