About the position

Zen & Art is seeking a Lead Android Developer for an exciting opportunity to work on our Hybrid App project. This role is designed for an exceptional candidate who possesses a strong background in Android development and is eager to take on a leadership position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for stewarding the Android platform and ensuring the successful development and maintenance of our applications. This position requires a deep understanding of mobile programming concepts, including threading, crash analysis, and security, as well as experience with various Google APIs for Android. In this role, you will be tasked with creating and maintaining custom Cordova plugins, performing annual maintenance on the codebase, and monitoring production feedback to address any issues that arise. You will also collaborate with infrastructure teams to resolve any software and administrative privilege issues that may impact the Android development process. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to train web application developers on how to build and debug hybrid applications, making this a dynamic and collaborative position. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site in New York, NY, as device debugging via USB will be necessary. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential, along with a BA/BS in computer science or a related field. Responsibilities

  • Steward the Android platform and Android development on macOS.
  • Create and maintain custom Cordova plugins, including hooks.
  • Perform annual maintenance on the codebase and automated build scripts to keep pace with changes to Android.
  • Monitor production feedback, crash reports, and analytics to address issues.
  • Work with infrastructure teams to address proxy, software, and administrative privilege issues that impact Android development or build process.
  • Train web application developers on how to build and debug a hybrid app.

Requirements

  • 9 years of experience in Android development (Required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • BA/BS in computer science or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of mobile programming concepts, including threading, crash analysis, and security.
  • Experience with Java and an interest in Kotlin.
  • Broad Google API for Android experience, including Auth, SafetyNet, and Permissions.
  • JavaScript programming using Node and Hybrid App debugging via Chrome.
  • Experience with Git Submodules and NPM package publishing.
  • Familiarity with Cordova command line tools and Android Studio.
  • macOS configuration skills, including shell scripting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing APIs.
  • Experience with iOS app development, including the ability to read Swift and Objective-C.
  • Strong user experience skills.
