About the position

The Applications Lead will oversee the software configuration, development, and management of applications within the NIEHS IT environment, ensuring all applications are secure, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals. This role requires experience in software lifecycle management, application troubleshooting, and configuration best practices. The Applications Lead will work with a team of developers and IT support staff to ensure optimal application performance, continuous improvement, and compliance with federal standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of software applications to support NIEHS business operations and objectives.
  • Guide software development efforts, including customization, integration, and improvement of applications, with a focus on quality, security, and compliance.
  • Address configuration issues, troubleshoot application problems, and develop solutions to maintain application stability and functionality.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline application workflows and implement enhancements that improve operational efficiency and user experience.
  • Ensure applications are well-documented and maintain compliance with ITIL and federal IT standards, including security protocols and change management practices.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including network and security personnel, to support seamless integration and performance of applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software configuration management, application development, and support, with a track record of successfully implementing and managing applications in an enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency in software development and application management tools, with experience in managing application lifecycles and ensuring alignment with organizational needs.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on troubleshooting and optimizing application performance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with government IT contracts and federal regulatory frameworks.
  • Certifications in software or application management, such as ITIL, Agile, or relevant technical certifications.
