About the position

The Lead Application Security Engineer is responsible for providing high-level technical direction in the development of applications, solving complex problems, and enhancing existing systems. This role involves leading projects, mentoring less experienced personnel, and ensuring that solutions are technologically sound while aligning with the organization's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and oversee complex systems analysis, design, and development efforts.
  • Play a key role as a leader and individual contributor on complex projects.
  • Provide analytical consulting and leadership in implementing new uses of information technologies.
  • Direct and monitor less experienced resources and coordinate development tasks.
  • Prepare and manage the technical component of project plans.
  • Confer with other staff in overall systems development direction.
  • Prepare and review test data and execute detailed test plans.
  • Evaluate and understand complex interrelationships among programs and applications.
  • Prepare clear technical and functional specifications and update documentation.
  • Maintain efficient operation and effectiveness of supported applications.
  • Recommend new technology, policies, or processes to benefit the organization.
  • Follow and promote the use of development standards and procedures.
  • Assist in developing expense and capital budgets.
  • Monitor employee performance and prepare annual appraisals.
  • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree and 6 years' systems analysis/application development experience, or 8 years' higher education and/or work experience including 6 years' systems analysis/application development experience.
  • Familiarity with application development software and hardware platforms.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and project management software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for issue resolution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong lateral thinking skills.
  • Experience coordinating between Applications and business units.
  • Experience recommending and implementing system solutions.
  • Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities from a project management perspective.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good understanding of the Bank's application framework.
  • Subject matter expert in business with knowledge of the supported application/system.
  • Mastered understanding of applications supported with advanced knowledge of interfacing applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously.
  • Ability to multitask for various components of complex projects.
