About the position

The Lead Application Security Engineer at M&T Bank is responsible for designing and providing technical direction for the development of applications to address complex problems and enhancements. This role involves leading projects, overseeing systems analysis, and ensuring the effective operation of supported applications while mentoring less experienced personnel.

Responsibilities

• Complete and oversee complex systems analysis, design, and development efforts.
• Play a key role as a leader and individual contributor on complex projects.
• Provide analytical consulting and leadership in implementing new uses of information technologies.
• Direct and monitor less experienced resources and coordinate development tasks.
• Prepare and manage the technical component of project plans.
• Confer with other staff in overall systems development direction.
• Prepare and review test data and execute detailed test plans.
• Evaluate complex interrelationships among programs and applications.
• Prepare thorough technical and functional specifications and update documentation.
• Review documentation prepared by less experienced staff.
• Prepare assessments including required tasks and estimated time frames.
• Maintain efficient operation of supported applications.
• Recommend new technology, policies, or processes to improve deficiencies.
• Lead or participate in technical evaluations of vendor software.
• Promote use of development standards and procedures.
• Assist in developing expense and capital budgets.
• Monitor employee performance and prepare annual appraisals.
• Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associate's degree and 6 years' systems analysis/application development experience, or 8 years' higher education/work experience including 6 years' systems analysis/application development experience.
• Familiarity with application development software and hardware platforms.
• Proficiency with personal computers and project management software.
• Ability to work on multiple complex projects.
• Excellent problem-solving skills for issue resolution.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to audiences.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong lateral thinking skills.
• Experience coordinating between Applications and business units.
• Experience recommending and implementing system solutions.
• Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities.
