About the position

The Lead Architectural Design position at Royal Caribbean Group involves providing leadership and expertise for new building projects. This role is responsible for managing and coordinating architectural and FF&E design work for new builds, revitalizations, or refurbishments. The Lead will develop a team of architects/designers, ensuring that design intent aligns with corporate branding and innovation standards while overseeing project execution and collaboration with external firms.

Responsibilities

  • Develops team resources to manage large scale projects.
  • Independently plans, manages, guides design, and oversees projects while coordinating with external architectural and interior design firms.
  • Ensures design intent is communicated clearly and consistently throughout the design process.
  • Applies and ensures brand and design standards, CADD and drawing standards, and timely delivery of project materials.
  • Receives status reports on complex tasks and critical issues to take appropriate action.
  • Creates presentations and reports for design management.
  • Assists with cost complexity balancing and other cost control needs.
  • Conducts practicality reviews to ensure operational risk and accessibility concerns are considered in design.
  • Stays current with industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledge.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years cruise design industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing large scale projects.
  • Minimum of 2 years managing direct reports preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Interior Design required; Architecture preferred.
  • Cruise ship newbuild or revitalization design experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge with cruise ship design and operation practices.
  • Skills in AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Sketchup; Microsoft Project is nice to know.
  • Knowledgeable with IMO marine requirements.
  • Knowledgeable with USPH marine requirements.
  • Knowledgeable with marine/hospitality FF&E selections and standards.
  • Experience with FF&E ship delivery and installation coordination.
