About the position

The Lead Automation Engineer - Process at AstraZeneca plays a crucial role in the Facilities and Engineering team, focusing on ensuring reliable, compliant, and energy-efficient operations within the facility. This position emphasizes standardized working methods driven by Lean principles and provides 24/7 support to site operations, making it essential for maintaining operational efficiency and compliance in a GMP-regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the Environmental/Equipment Monitoring System (EMS)
  • Perform as system admin for the EMS and process equipment and systems
  • Conduct troubleshooting of EMS and Building Management System issues
  • Oversee process equipment; Diagnose and replace defective components
  • Perform routine evaluation studies of process equipment and systems
  • Provide accurate budget estimates for capital equipment and projects
  • Support automation programs for energy management
  • Develop and implement equipment startup and sequence of operations for facility and process-related assets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental/equipment monitoring systems, process and lab equipment automation controls, energy management systems, or other related experience.
  • Experience in maintenance in a biotech or pharmaceutical company with direct experience with GMP facility operation.
  • Experience in ideation, conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and maintaining EMS in a GMP-regulated environment, with a focus on Rockwell equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of EMS technologies, system architecture, data flow, communication protocols, alarm management and remote notifications, and integration/interface standards (e.g. OPC, Modbus, LON, ethernet, hardwired, etc.), with specific experience in integrating Siemens and Rockwell systems.
  • Proficiency in system/equipment integration and networking principles within a GMP environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex system issues while adhering to GMP regulations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multi-functional teams and stakeholders in a GMP environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Energy Manager, Siemens certifications, Rockwell) are a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering.
