About the position

The Lead AV Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, and operation of audio-visual equipment for various events. This role involves leading a team of technicians, ensuring that all AV systems are functioning correctly, and addressing any technical issues that arise during events. The technician will also be involved in planning AV layouts and integrating new technologies to enhance performance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and operate AV equipment such as projectors, microphones, speakers, soundboards, and lighting systems.
  • Set up video conferencing systems, displays, and recording devices.
  • Lead and supervise a team of AV technicians to ensure all equipment is set up and working as required.
  • Delegate tasks and provide training and guidance to junior technicians.
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues that arise during events, such as audio feedback, video signal loss, or connectivity problems.
  • Maintain and repair AV equipment, ensuring it is always in good working condition.
  • Plan and design AV system layouts for venues or installations, ensuring that equipment fits the event's technical needs.
  • Integrate new AV technology into existing systems to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Keep records of equipment inventories, maintenance schedules, and event-specific setups.
  • Prepare post-event reports on the AV performance and any technical issues that were addressed.

Requirements

  • Expertise in AV systems (audio mixers, video switchers, lighting consoles, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of signal flow, wiring, and acoustics.
  • Problem-solving and quick decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with clients and event staff.
