About the position

The Lead Software Engineer - Backend position is a pivotal role within the Group Core API team at Guardian, responsible for developing and maintaining APIs and integrations that support various web applications for the Group Business. This team plays a crucial role in ensuring that customer-facing applications, such as portals, call centers, IVR, and chatbots, are powered by robust APIs, providing a seamless and unified customer experience. As the team expands, we are seeking talented Lead Software Engineers who are not only skilled in Java-based technologies but are also passionate about making a difference through their work. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and a desire to deliver high-quality software solutions quickly and efficiently. In this role, you will lead an agile team as part of an Agile Release Train, focusing on building well-designed, scalable software integration solutions that are production-ready. You will be responsible for engineering application integrations using messaging solutions, events, and REST APIs, while collaborating closely with business teams and solution architects to ensure alignment with the product roadmap and design blueprint. Mentorship is a key aspect of this position, as you will coach developers and analysts, assign tasks, and conduct code reviews to uphold industry best practices. Additionally, you will be tasked with triaging end-to-end system integration issues across various middleware systems and infrastructure, ensuring that our solutions are reliable and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an agile team as part of an Agile Release Train.
  • Build well-designed, robust, and scalable software integration solutions that are production-ready.
  • Engineer application integrations using messaging solutions, events, and REST APIs.
  • Collaborate closely with Business Teams and Solution Architecture to ensure alignment with the Product Roadmap and design blueprint.
  • Mentor and coach developers and analysts, assign tasks, and perform code reviews.
  • Triage end-to-end system integration issues across various middleware systems and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
  • 15+ years of experience as a J2EE Software Engineer.
  • Understanding of Agile and SAFE Methodologies.
  • Industry experience implementing REST APIs, Data Driven Design, Microservices Architecture, Enterprise Integration Patterns, and Event Driven Architecture.
  • Experience integrating with Apache Kafka and messaging platforms such as ActiveMQ and IBM MQ.
  • Experience with Docker containers and AWS Cloud services (S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, Redis Cache).
  • Experience using SQL and NoSQL Databases.
  • Familiarity with Apache Camel, Tibco Business Works, Mulesoft or similar EAI frameworks.
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD automation tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Maven.
  • Experience with API Security frameworks, token management, and user access control including OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics and Zenoss.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud-native application development.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and design patterns.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices and methodologies.
