About the position

The Lead Bartender position at Northern Waters Casino Resort involves assisting the Beverage Manager in training bar staff and supervising daily operations of the bar. The role includes managing inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring high levels of customer service while preparing and serving beverages. The Lead Bartender will also work in the Clubhouse Bar and may serve as a Beverage Cart Attendant for the Golf Course when required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and addresses employee issues and general issues in the bar when the Beverage Manager is unavailable.
  • Reads, implements, and adheres to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Prepares alcohol and non-alcohol beverages for bar and restaurant patrons.
  • Interacts with bar customers to take and serve food and beverage orders.
  • Mixes all types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to order.
  • Prepares and delivers drinks to bar patrons or team members.
  • Checks customer identification to confirm legal drinking age.
  • Complies with all food and beverage policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Handles money, operates the payment collection system, and accurately makes change.
  • Completes necessary documentation for fund requirements.
  • Cleans the bar, stocks bar items, and maintains overall cleanliness.
  • Washes bar glasses and other bar equipment.
  • Complies with all sanitary and safety requirements.
  • Follows serving guidelines and makes judgments regarding intoxicated customers.
  • Knowledgeable about the bar and restaurant menu options to assist guests.
  • Tracks and records inventory and maintains records of popular drinks.
  • Provides high-level customer service through active engagement and a positive attitude.
  • Works as a team to represent the Casino with courtesy and respect.
  • Maintains a high level of personal hygiene to represent a clean environment.
  • Assumes other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by management.
  • Flexible with scheduling of shifts, willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attends all necessary meetings and training facilitated by Management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic math skills for accurate money-handling.
  • Ability to operate payment-collection system.
  • Positive and respectful attitude.
  • Ability to work with the public and in a team.
  • Must be of legal age in Michigan (18 years old) to serve alcohol.
  • Must be able to successfully pass TIPS training.
  • Must pass background checks and other pre-employment screenings necessary to receive and maintain a Gaming License.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ year experience as a bartender.
  • 1+ year experience working in a casino setting.
  • 1+ year in bar supervisory experience or supervisory experience in a like-setting.
  • Completion of an approved-bartenders course.
