About the position

The Lead Buyer position is a full-time contract role based in Houston, TX, requiring a hybrid work schedule with two days onsite per week. The role focuses on developing project purchasing strategies and coordinating procurement activities for investment projects, ensuring alignment with global procurement objectives and managing supplier relationships effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Development of project purchasing strategies and coordination of procurement activities for assigned investment projects.
  • Ensure project sourcing objectives, actions, and priorities are aligned within Global Capex Procurement, Global Engineering, and other key business partners.
  • Procurement of all capex and supplies needed to bring manufacturing capacity online, including systems, sub-systems, equipment, spare parts, and services.
  • Work closely with Global Category Management colleagues to execute agreed strategies locally in manufacturing sites.
  • Plan, lead, and execute negotiations of commercial terms and contracting for supply agreements.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, acting as the primary point of contact within the project team.
  • Drive awareness of supply issues within the project, clarifying business impact and leading resolution plans.
  • Develop project risk management strategies and implement appropriate risk mitigation plans.
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and participate in tracking and reporting to drive supplier accountability.
  • Develop cost reduction strategies and implementation plans that meet project/business needs.
  • Report project-related savings monthly and maintain the project savings pipeline.
  • Review and negotiate supplier change orders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with procurement management
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to craft commercial contracts and agreements
  • Project and procurement management skills
  • Team player with ability to work efficiently in a matrix organization and interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience with MS Office, SAP, Oracle Unifier
  • Excellent business mindset, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
