About the position

The Lead Cable Technician position at Vi-Tel, Inc. involves leading a team of structured cable technicians in various environments across the country. The role requires extensive experience in cabling, including Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and coax, with additional knowledge of fiber optics being advantageous. The technician will be responsible for overseeing cabling projects, ensuring quality work, and maintaining effective communication with team members and clients.

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of cable technicians
• Reading blueprints
• Pulling and routing various cabling from field end to rack
• Terminating data jacks in the field
• Terminating patch panels on rack end
• Terminating phone blocks
• Possibly installing cabling supports such as ladder racks and cable hangers/hooks
• Testing terminations
• Labeling cabling
• Setting cabinets and/or racks
• Communicating with your team and lead technician

Requirements

• Experience with Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and coax cabling
• Experience with single mode and multimode fiber optics is a plus
• Proven experience in leading a team
• Ability to read blueprints
• Strong customer communication skills
• Experience in pulling cable and securing cables in raceways and trays
• Experience in dressing cabling into racks and performing terminations
• Experience with installing and setting up IDF/MDF racks/cabinets and adding patch panels is a plus
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and attention to detail

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with BICSI and NEC Standards
• Flexibility to work day or night shifts depending on client needs
