About the position

The Cardiac Sonographer (CS) 3 position encompasses both supervisory and technical responsibilities within the Cardiac Sonography Laboratory. The employee will be accountable for planning, administering, and managing human, material, and educational resources to ensure effective care and services. This role includes overseeing the clinical ladder program for Cardiac Sonographers, managing workload fluctuations, and ensuring timely access to testing for patients. Additionally, the CS 3 will ensure the lab produces high-quality ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses for physicians, maintain accreditation standards, and support multiple hospital locations. The position reports directly to the Cardiovascular Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Performs transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) exams.
  • Performs stress echocardiogram (STEC) exams.
  • Assists physicians with transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) exams, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Watchman procedure, and Electrophysiology studies.
  • Plans, administers, and accounts for human, material, and educational resources for the Echocardiography Laboratory.
  • Manages time and workload fluctuations and incorporates accreditation responsibilities into the schedule.
  • Applies for and maintains lab accreditation in accordance with IAC Standards.
  • Maintains and assists with ongoing development of cardiovascular database and reading system.
  • Recruits, retains, nurtures, evaluates, and develops staff.
  • Assists in the selection, utilization, and maintenance of echosonography equipment.
  • Completes departmental and hospital requirements.
  • Involves self in departmental, team, and committee goals.
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for individual performance goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of formal training or education beyond high school in Cardiac Ultrasonography.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Registration required to obtain American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry within 2 years of hire and maintained thereafter.
  • State licensure for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in cardiac sonography lab after schooling.
