About the position

The Lead Career Coach is responsible for supervising career coaching activities and providing supportive services for participants enrolled in Career and Training Services for Justice Involved Residents (JIR). This role involves collaboration with the Michigan Department of Corrections and requires effective management of staff and program participants to ensure successful reentry into the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise career coaching activities and related supportive services for participants.
  • Assist the Reentry Program Manager in interviewing, hiring, and training Career Services staff.
  • In the absence of the Manager, supervise reentry staff and address participant concerns.
  • Provide technical support related to jobseeker assessment, eligibility, and supportive services.
  • Ensure effective implementation of service plans for reentry jobseekers.
  • Identify problem areas and service gaps, recommending plans of action.
  • Report on program progress and concerns to the supervisor.
  • Meet regularly with staff to discuss participant progress and concerns.
  • Ensure individual case files meet eligibility requirements and are accurately recorded.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of case files and service strategies.
  • Prepare files for audit and follow auditor recommendations.
  • Compile program statistics and prepare performance reports for management.
  • Participate in agency and funder meetings and trainings for staff.
  • Coordinate with the Reentry Employment Specialist to prepare candidates for job opportunities.
  • Make frequent visits to MDOC facilities and employer locations.

Requirements

  • Two to three years of experience in Career Coaching and relevant supervisory experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Experience in social work, counseling, career planning, or related field.
  • Familiarity with Human Centered Design principles, including Motivational Interviewing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with employers and participants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of community resources and case management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Familiarity with Salesforce-like data platforms and the state's OSMIS system.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual language skills are a bonus, but not required.
