The Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician (LCPhT) plays a crucial role in the pharmacy department at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Under the guidance of the Retail Pharmacy Operations Coordinator, Pharmacist on Duty, or Pharmacist in Charge, the LCPhT is responsible for supporting the patient care team by taking on a minimum of 75% technician shift assignments. This position involves direct supervision and coordination of pharmacy technician tasks and assignments, ensuring that staffing hours align with workload demands. The LCPhT is tasked with managing the safe pick-up and delivery of dispensed medications, addressing rejected claims through rebilling, and overseeing the training and competency assessment of pharmacy associates in compliance packaging and non-sterile compounding. Additionally, the LCPhT will provide orientation and competency assessments for new pharmacy technicians, conduct peer evaluations, and draft coaching statements or feedback for technicians under their supervision. The LCPhT also coordinates care for assisted living facilities, managing electronic medication administration records (eMARs), new medications, compliance packaging, and billing issues. They are responsible for evaluating and collecting performance improvement data for assigned metrics, reporting near-miss events or actual medication events, and participating in shared governance teams. Monthly meetings for pharmacy technicians will be led by the LCPhT, who must also perform the functions required of a Certified Pharmacy Technician, including medication ordering, controlled medication procurement, preparation of non-sterile compounds, and collaboration with other healthcare providers. The LCPhT is expected to maintain infection control and safety standards while demonstrating technical skills and critical thinking within their scope of practice. In addition to these responsibilities, the LCPhT will participate in direct patient care as assigned, which may include collecting medication histories, administering immunizations, resolving billing complaints, and coordinating care during the discharge process, including the delivery of home infusion doses and prior authorization requests.
