About the position

The Lead Civil Engineer for Renewable Energy Grid Solutions is responsible for overseeing project control activities globally, ensuring consistent functional specifications and processes for project implementation. This role involves significant autonomy in executing activities within established practices, with a focus on meeting customer expectations and managing departmental operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and facilitate the construction of physical and naturally built environments, including soil mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundations for substation equipment.
  • Specify design and requirements for all underground and aboveground civil works, including contractor specifications for leveling, foundations, and slabs.
  • Conduct cost estimating, constructability assessments, and sequencing while understanding customer and local civil codes and standards.
  • Analyze and design industrial structures that support or resist static and dynamic loads.
  • Lead and coordinate design teams, ensuring timely reviews and coordination with the lead engineer and other disciplines.
  • Anticipate and mitigate delivery issues, recommending changes as necessary.
  • Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Manage technical interfaces with sub suppliers and partners, preparing input data and checking consistency.
  • Request and lead technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers as needed.
  • Serve as the technical contact with customer civil engineering teams to resolve technical and field issues efficiently.
  • Assist project managers with estimates, budgets, schedules, and quality control for civil and structural activities during design and construction phases.
  • Highlight scope or design changes and inform the Project Lead Engineer of design issues throughout project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry-related experience designing structural steel and foundations.
  • PE License in California and willingness to review and seal drawings.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time, including international travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing structures and foundations for electrical T&D substations.
  • Site field experience and knowledge of construction methods impacting civil and structural design.
  • Experience with site preparation and drainage design, and knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design.
  • Background experience with reviewing architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing for buildings.
  • Knowledge of U.S. building codes, ASCE standards, and NFPA standards.
  • Working knowledge of civil design software packages such as L-pile, STADD, RISA 3D, and Foundation.
