About the position

WSP is currently seeking a Lead Civil Site Engineer with Solid Waste experience for our Houston, Texas office. In this role, you will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team, contributing to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves their challenges. Your primary responsibilities will include providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in both the public and private sectors. You will assist with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of waste facilities, including landfills, transfer stations, and surface impoundments. Your work will substantiate reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. In this position, you will determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources, including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and hydrologic analysis. You will perform professional civil engineering work, conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Additionally, you will develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, preparing construction safety and phasing plans while coordinating with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. You will work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects. This includes assisting with laying out installations, establishing reference points, calculating costs and quantities of materials, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications and regulatory requirements. You will also prepare data visualizations, maintain quality control standards, assist with project development, and provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Your role will involve preparing technical reports and presentations, interacting with regulatory agencies, and remaining current in the latest civil engineering techniques and practices. You will build the practice and maintain positive client relationships while exercising responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of waste facilities, including landfills and transfer stations.
  • Substantiate reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, and construction specifications.

  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, and reports for interpretation of data.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements and reporting.
  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research and findings.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and design/build applications.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Working knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and discipline-specific design software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
