About the position

Kent is seeking a Lead Civil Structural Engineer (P.E.) to join our team in Baytown, TX. This role is pivotal in providing direction and coordination for civil and structural engineering design across various sectors, including Oil & Gas, Refining, Power, and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience in civil/structural design and problem resolution, along with a P.E. license for stamp/sealing purposes. As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall civil/structural engineering design of medium to large-scale projects. This includes defining and re-scoping work, preparing engineering estimates at both proposal and design levels, and scheduling the civil/structural engineering portion of work in a project. You will prepare accurate and complete designs and calculations to meet project requirements while coordinating with other disciplines to ensure a high-quality product. Your experience should encompass a wide range of civil engineering tasks, including site development, stormwater drainage design, roadway and paving plans, and concrete and steel design for various structures. You will also be responsible for preparing geotechnical and topographical survey specifications and keeping up to date with new engineering processes and standards. Your role will involve providing technical guidance to co-workers and supervision to junior engineers and designers, contributing to a collaborative team environment, and working autonomously without direct supervision. In addition to the responsibilities listed, you may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as directed by management, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization. Responsibilities

  • Provide overall civil/structural engineering design of medium to large size engineering projects.
  • Define and re-scope work, prepare engineering estimates at both proposal and design level, and schedule for civil/structural engineering portion of work in a project.
  • Prepare accurate and complete designs and calculations as required to meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and assist civil/structural project team to ensure effective quality product.
  • Perform site development, surface creation, site preparation works including SWPPP, rough grading and finished grading.
  • Perform storm water drainage, effluents design; manhole and cat basic detailing; water/sanitary sewer design and modeling.
  • Design roadway, paving, and fencing plan.
  • Conduct concrete design for foundations for various equipment and structures with dynamic analysis.
  • Prepare geotechnical and topographical survey specifications and re-soil report and survey data.
  • Keep up to date on new engineering processes, techniques, and standards.
  • Develop and recommend improvements in engineering and design standards to lower cost and improve work quality and facilitate maintenance.
  • Resolve project issues and problems.
  • Provide technical guidance to co-workers or supervision to junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

  • BSCE degree, MSCE preferred.
  • Minimum ten years of hands-on civil/structural engineering experience required in petrochemical, midstream or other heavy industries.
  • Must have P.E. license (preferably in the State of Texas).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil/structural computer applications.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into daily work processes.
  • Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
  • Basic construction knowledge required.
  • Familiar with PIP Standards.
  • Working knowledge of civil/structural layout and design complying with industry standards.
  • Familiar with commonly used civil/structural engineering standards and codes including but not limited to IBC, ACI, AISC, and ASCE codes as well as commonly used civil/structural engineering software.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word).
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D, L-pile, Navisworks, STAAD, AutoCAD 2D/3D.

Nice-to-haves

  • S.E. licensed is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with design and/or construction of plants required.
