About the position

Ulteig is seeking a Lead Civil/Structural Engineer who acts as a fully competent engineer and performs work involving the application of engineering principles and practices. The successful candidate will have experience managing projects or acting as a technical design lead, providing Professional Engineering oversight and technical support to less experienced engineers and EITs. This role involves developing a solid team with complete responsibility for the design of bridge projects, utilizing advanced techniques, theory, precepts, and practices to lead and complete complex project features for design, load ratings, and assessments of PS&E projects. The candidate will also provide expert consultation for the design, development, and implementation of technical plans and systems, while developing client relationships and assisting with business development. The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer will manage or act as the technical design lead on various bridge and structural-related projects, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position requires close collaboration with project managers, senior engineers, and other team members to ensure successful project delivery. Responsibilities include developing plans, specifications, and observation reports, providing recommendations for alterations to improve quality, performing and checking detailed design work and load rating calculations, and communicating with clients to ensure their needs are met. The role also involves participating in contract bidding and administration, developing client relationships, and participating in marketing, sales, business development, and proposal development. The candidate may work in the office or in the field, with travel expectations of up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Manage or act as technical design lead on various bridge/structural related projects.
  • Act as a technical leader and resource for other engineers applying advanced techniques, theories, procedures, and practices to complete engineering tasks.
  • Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and other team members to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and observation reports to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide recommendations for alterations to development and designs to improve quality.
  • Perform and/or check detailed design work and load rating calculations.
  • Communicate with clients to ensure their needs are met.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration.
  • Develop client relationships and participate in marketing, sales, business development, and proposal development.
  • Resolve design problems including performing field investigations/observations.
  • Participate or lead team development/recruiting activities.
  • Participate in community and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Master's degree preferred.
  • PE license required.
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with or for infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with design specifications including AAHSTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.
  • Experience using bridge/structural design software such as OpenBridge Designer, LEAP Bridge, or RISA-3D/STAAD preferred.
  • Experience in bridge load ratings and AASHTOWare Bridge rating BrR.
  • Maintains positive client relationships.
