About the position

The Lead Clerk at WinCo Foods plays a crucial role in assisting management with store operations, ensuring excellent customer service, and leading by example in the grocery or freight department. This position involves performing clerk duties, addressing customer inquiries, and supporting department managers in daily operations, all while fostering a friendly and efficient shopping environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist management with store operations by performing clerk duties in the designated department (grocery or freight).
• Lead by example and assist the department manager in general department operations as directed.
• Answer customer questions and complaints in a professional manner, ensuring fast, friendly service.
• Perform the duties of a grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker as needed.
• Provide customer service by maintaining an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic service.
• Monitor area activities, including customer traffic flow and coverage of checkout lanes.
• Maintain cleanliness and eye-appeal of work areas, storage areas, and retail displays according to company policy.
• Communicate regularly with the immediate supervisor and assist as needed.
• Provide direction and leadership to clerks, demonstrating and performing clerk responsibilities.
• Monitor cashier money handling procedures and assist with scan system procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in leadership and customer service roles.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain composure and professionally address difficult situations.
• Understanding of company practices and policies to effectively judge customer activity.
• Demonstrated initiative and self-direction in performing multiple tasks.
• Basic math skills for computing weights and measures.

• Food Handlers Certification (Per State Laws)
