About the position

The Lead Climate Finance Specialist at the World Bank Group will spearhead the scaling of climate and carbon finance through results-based climate finance in World Bank operations. This role involves engaging with donor partners, contributing to the World Bank's climate change agenda, and leading the Climate Finance Mobilization Unit's efforts to integrate climate considerations into development planning. The successful candidate will leverage extensive experience in climate finance and carbon markets to drive innovative financing solutions and support countries in their transition to sustainable development pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, operational and technical leadership in scaling up climate finance into World Bank's operations.
  • Lead the design and operationalization of innovative structures and financial instruments for results-based climate finance (RBCF).
  • Lead and contribute to analytical and advisory services on policies and mechanisms to mobilize climate finance and develop carbon markets.
  • Provide technical guidance for the generation and monetization of emissions reduction programs.
  • Support dialogue, coordination and fundraising with donor partners for the funds managed by SCCFM.
  • Build effective relationships with key external partners, including multilateral development banks and private sector.
  • Represent the unit and influence policy and partnership outcomes at internal and external platforms.
  • Provide tailored professional mentoring to SCCFM staff.

Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in a technical field such as engineering, economics, finance, or public administration relevant to climate and carbon finance.
  • 12-15 years of experience in positions of increasing complexity related to decarbonization pathways and investment programs.
  • Strong client orientation and operational skills developed through extensive working across Regions and Global Departments.
  • Extensive experience in leading business development and implementation of innovative operations related to climate finance.
  • Knowledge and experience of World Bank's operational policies and practices.
  • Experience working with climate funds and proven results in mobilization and management of donor funding.
  • High degree of team leadership skills with a track record of inclusivity and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated experience working across departments and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, inter-personal, diplomatic, and partnership skills.

Nice-to-haves
