About the position

The Lead Clinical Dietitian at Houston Methodist West Hospital is responsible for advanced clinical practice and leadership within the dietetics team. This role involves overseeing quality improvement projects, providing high-level medical nutrition therapy, and serving as a liaison between management, staff, and physicians. The Lead Clinical Dietitian also mentors staff and ensures adherence to standards of practice for optimal patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead department and quality improvement projects.
  • Provide high-level medical nutrition therapy at the patient bedside and across the organization.
  • Plan and implement professional nutrition presentations.
  • Serve as the primary resource for staff regarding nutrition inquiries.
  • Coordinate new hire training activities and schedules.
  • Monitor and adjust team activities to ensure optimum patient throughput and experience.
  • Conduct quality audits on processes and outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for corrective action and process improvement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in dietetics, food science, nutrition, or related field.
  • Five years of hospital direct patient care experience as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Three years of clinical nutrition experience in a large teaching hospital preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • State licensure as a Dietitian in Texas.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or equivalent specialty board certification within 6 months.
