About the position

The Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS III) at San Dimas Community Hospital is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the laboratory section, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing consultative services to the medical staff. This role requires a high level of expertise in laboratory procedures and management, as well as a commitment to quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operation of the laboratory section(s).
  • Provide consultative services to the medical staff as a Technical Consultant.
  • Oversee the section/department performance improvement program and participate in hospital interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the technical and fiscal aspects of the section(s).
  • Oversee the section(s) quality management/assurance program.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Assess staff competency and complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and update section policy and procedure manuals.
  • Review quality control performance and document corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance and notify the Director or Medical Director.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in various disciplines.
  • Ensure the performance and documentation of equipment maintenance.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for patients of all ages.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ensure the currency of all laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety and infection control.
  • May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.

Requirements

  • ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum five years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
