About the position

The Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS III) at San Dimas Community Hospital is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the clinical laboratory section, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing consultative services to the medical staff. This role involves overseeing quality management programs, assessing staff competency, and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures. The position requires a high level of technical skill and independent judgment in performing a variety of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operation of the laboratory section(s).
  • Provide consultative services to the medical staff as a Technical Consultant.
  • Oversee the section/department performance improvement program.
  • Manage the technical and fiscal operations of the section(s).
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Assess staff competency and complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
  • Develop, maintain, and update section policy and procedure manuals.
  • Review quality control performance and document corrective actions.
  • Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify the Director/Medical Director.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods.
  • Ensure performance and documentation of equipment maintenance.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Maintain current laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety and infection control.

Requirements

  • ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum five years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
